R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Alejandro Jorge Olvera has been named a 2016 Corpus
Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar in
the science category; and
WHEREAS, The Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished
Scholars program was established to reward local students who have
demonstrated excellence in specific areas of achievement; since its
inception in 1988, hundreds of young men and women have been
selected for this prestigious honor, and each of the 2016 winners
received a $1,000 scholarship to help fund their college studies;
and
WHEREAS, The son of Glenda Huerta and Ruben Olvera and the
stepson of Roberto Huerta, A. J. Olvera is a senior at Calallen
Charter High School, where he is ranked first in his class of 25
students and maintains a 5.5 grade point average; in addition to
earning high marks, he has also served as president of the National
Honor Society and volunteered with the Rotary Interact Club for
youth; after graduation, he plans to study astrophysics; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has pursued his goals
with tremendous dedication, and he may take great pride in all that
he has accomplished as he looks ahead to a future bright with
promise; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Alejandro Jorge Olvera on his
selection as a 2016 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas
Distinguished Scholar and extend to him sincere best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Olvera as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
