| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished |

| 9 | 10 | | Scholars program was established to reward local students who have |

| 10 | 11 | | demonstrated excellence in specific areas of achievement; since its |

| 11 | 12 | | inception in 1988, hundreds of young men and women have been |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | selected for this prestigious honor, and each of the 2016 winners |

| 13 | 14 | | received a $1,000 scholarship to help fund their college studies; |

| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The son of Stephen and Gwynetta Hoelscher, Rush |

| 16 | 17 | | Hoelscher is a senior at Tuloso-Midway High School, where he holds a |

| 17 | 18 | | 4.26 grade point average and ranks first in his class of 294 |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | students; in addition to keeping up with a demanding course load |

| 19 | 20 | | that includes classes in the process technology program at Del Mar |

| 20 | 21 | | College, he has won a district title in the 100-yard breaststroke |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | race as a member of the Warriors swim team and shown prize-winning |

| 22 | 23 | | animals at the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show; he has also |

| 23 | 24 | | garnered accolades for his writing and engineering-design skills, |

| 24 | 25 | | as well as the 2014 Outstanding Altar Server designation from |

| 25 | 26 | | St. Anthony's Catholic Church, and he has further distinguished |

| 26 | 27 | | himself by leading his school's Junior Engineering Technology |

| 27 | 28 | | Society to a state title; after graduating, he plans to study |

|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has pursued his goals |

| 30 | 31 | | with tremendous dedication, and he may take great pride in all that |

| 31 | 32 | | he has accomplished as he looks ahead to a future bright with |
