H.R. No. 575 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Xander Tipton has been named a 2016 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar in the career category; and WHEREAS, The Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholars program was established to reward local students who have demonstrated excellence in specific areas of achievement; since its inception in 1988, hundreds of young men and women have been selected for this prestigious honor, and each of the 2016 winners received a $1,000 scholarship to help fund their college studies; and WHEREAS, A senior at Veterans Memorial High School, Xander Tipton is a skilled welder who has begun turning his talent and drive toward making art; he has broadened his understanding of the field by not only taking art classes but also visiting the Art Center of Corpus Christi on a regular basis; in addition to maintaining a 3.09 grade point average, he is a member of the wrestling team and a former football player; outside of school, he serves Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Robstown as an usher and as a member of both the youth choir and the youth ministry; after graduation, he plans to continue studying welding and honing his craft as a visual artist; and WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has pursued his goals with tremendous dedication, and he may take great pride in all that he has accomplished as he looks ahead to a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Xander Tipton on his selection as a 2016 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Tipton as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
