H.R. No. 576 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Annie Tran has been named a 2016 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar in the performing and fine arts category; and WHEREAS, The Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholars program was established to reward local students who have demonstrated excellence in specific areas of achievement; since its inception in 1988, hundreds of young men and women have been selected for this prestigious honor, and each of the 2016 winners received a $1,000 scholarship to help fund their college studies; and WHEREAS, A senior at Calallen High School, Annie Tran has found both a community of fellow artists and an avenue for self-expression through the Topcat Dance Team; demonstrating skill and perseverance, she has helped lead the troupe to wins in such competitions as the Coastal Bend Cheer and Dance Challenge and the Danceline USA contest; despite a demanding academic schedule that includes AP and dual-credit classes, she holds a 4.9 grade point average and ranks 21st in her class of 263 students; she also powerlifts, runs track and cross-country, and teaches dance to young people with Down syndrome; after graduation, she plans to study nursing or physical therapy in college; and WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has pursued her goals with tremendous dedication, and she may take great pride in all that she has accomplished as she looks ahead to a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Annie Tran on her selection as a 2016 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Tran as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
