| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished |

| 9 | 10 | | Scholars program was established to reward local students who have |

| 10 | 11 | | demonstrated excellence in specific areas of achievement; since its |

| 11 | 12 | | inception in 1988, hundreds of young men and women have been |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | selected for this prestigious honor, and each of the 2016 winners |

| 13 | 14 | | received a $1,000 scholarship to help fund their college studies; |

| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A senior at Calallen High School, Annie Tran has |

| 16 | 17 | | found both a community of fellow artists and an avenue for |

| 17 | 18 | | self-expression through the Topcat Dance Team; demonstrating skill |

| 18 | 19 | | and perseverance, she has helped lead the troupe to wins in such |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | competitions as the Coastal Bend Cheer and Dance Challenge and the |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Danceline USA contest; despite a demanding academic schedule that |

| 21 | 22 | | includes AP and dual-credit classes, she holds a 4.9 grade point |

| 22 | 23 | | average and ranks 21st in her class of 263 students; she also |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | powerlifts, runs track and cross-country, and teaches dance to |

| 24 | 25 | | young people with Down syndrome; after graduation, she plans to |

| 25 | 26 | | study nursing or physical therapy in college; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has pursued her goals |

| 27 | 28 | | with tremendous dedication, and she may take great pride in all that |

| 28 | 29 | | she has accomplished as she looks ahead to a future bright with |
