| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished |

| 9 | 10 | | Scholars program was established to reward local students who have |

| 10 | 11 | | demonstrated excellence in specific areas of achievement; since its |

| 11 | 12 | | inception in 1988, hundreds of young men and women have been |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | selected for this prestigious honor, and each of the 2016 winners |

| 13 | 14 | | received a $1,000 scholarship to help fund their college studies; |

| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A senior at Harold T. Branch Academy for Career and |

| 16 | 17 | | Technical Education, Isahia Garza has maintained an impressive 3.65 |

| 17 | 18 | | grade point average while working toward an associate degree in |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | chemistry through dual-credit courses at Del Mar College; in |

| 19 | 20 | | addition to keeping up with his challenging academic course load |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | and a part-time job, he participates in such extracurricular |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | activities as the Charter Communication Club and Skills USA, and he |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | successfully ran for the office of student council vice president; |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | after finishing his studies at Del Mar, he plans to continue his |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | education as a pharmacy student; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has pursued his goals |

| 26 | 27 | | with tremendous dedication, and he may take great pride in all that |

| 27 | 28 | | he has accomplished as he looks ahead to a future bright with |
