H.R. No. 580 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Jacqueline Elena Black has been named a 2016 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar in the achiever category; and WHEREAS, The Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholars program was established to reward local students who have demonstrated excellence in specific areas of achievement; since its inception in 1988, hundreds of young men and women have been selected for this prestigious honor, and each of the 2016 winners received a $1,000 scholarship to help fund their college studies; and WHEREAS, The daughter of Barbara Canales and Paul Black, Jackie Black is a senior at W. B. Ray High School, where she has maintained an impressive 4.03 grade point average and earned honor roll recognition; in addition to keeping up with her challenging academic course load, which has included dual-credit classes at Del Mar College and five Advanced Placement classes, she takes part in such extracurricular activities as varsity soccer, choir, and horseback riding; she also volunteers her time raising funds and awareness for childhood cancer research and helping at a therapeutic riding center; and WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has pursued her goals with tremendous dedication, and she may take great pride in all that she has accomplished as she looks ahead to a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Jacqueline Elena Black on her selection as a 2016 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Black as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
