5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The 105th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly |

6 | 7 | | cause for celebration, and Eva Hagle of Midland marked this |
---|
7 | 8 | | momentous milestone in her life on January 28, 2017; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in 1912, Eva Hagle grew up on a ranch in |
---|
9 | 10 | | Stonewall County with 12 siblings; she was working at her sister's |
---|
10 | 11 | | boardinghouse in Artesia, New Mexico, when she met her future |
---|
11 | 12 | | husband, John "Whitey" Hagle; after their marriage in July 1938, |
---|
12 | 13 | | the couple settled in Crane; and |
---|
13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Hagle moved to Wilmington, California, |
---|
14 | 15 | | to work in the shipyards during World War II; while employed at the |
---|
15 | 16 | | California Shipbuilding Corporation on Terminal Island in Los |
---|
16 | 17 | | Angeles County, Mrs. Hagle became exceptionally skilled in the use |
---|
17 | 18 | | of an acetylene torch, much to the disgruntlement of some of her |
---|
18 | 19 | | male colleagues; and |
---|
19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, After the war, the Hagles returned to Crane to raise |
---|
20 | 21 | | their daughter, Rita; they opened the Airport Drive-In and also |
---|
21 | 22 | | owned a sand and gravel business and a truck weigh station until the |
---|
22 | 23 | | death of Mr. Hagle in 1962; Mrs. Hagle worked at C. R. Anthony for a |
---|
23 | 24 | | time as well; following her retirement in 1977, she relocated to |
---|
24 | 25 | | California to be close to her daughter and grandsons, Jeffrey and |
---|
25 | 26 | | Dennis; the family settled in Midland in 1981; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Hagle continued to live independently until |
---|
27 | 28 | | May 2016, and she credits her longevity to the philosophy "Work |
---|
28 | 29 | | hard, mind your own business, and keep on dancing"; until recent |
---|
29 | 30 | | years, she was a member of the Permian Basin Dance Club, and |
---|
30 | 31 | | although bad knees have now obliged her to eliminate the polka and |
---|
31 | 32 | | two-step from her routine, she continues to enjoy listening to |
---|
32 | 33 | | music; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, An inspiring member of the Greatest Generation, Eva |
---|
34 | 35 | | Hagle has witnessed a panorama of change over the course of more |
---|
35 | 36 | | than a century, and she has met life's challenges and opportunities |
---|
36 | 37 | | with determination and grace, earning the deep admiration of all |
---|
37 | 38 | | who are privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
---|
39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Eva Hagle on her 105th birthday and |
---|
40 | 41 | | extend to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be |
