44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, We respect the rule of law and love of our neighbors;
66 and
77 WHEREAS, The U.S. Department of State defines anti-Semitism
88 as: "a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred
99 toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of
1010 anti-Semitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals
1111 and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and
1212 religious facilities;" and
1313 WHEREAS, There is clear evidence of increasing incidents and
1414 expressions of anti-Semitism throughout the United States; and
1515 WHEREAS, Anti-Semitic acts committed and recorded since the
1616 Presidential election on November 8, 2017 have increased and
1717 include violent attacks and death threats against Jews, arson,
1818 graffiti and property desecration at Jewish cemeteries, places of
1919 worship, schools and community centers; and
2020 WHEREAS, The very recent acts of vandalism on more than 100
2121 gravestones at a Jewish cemetery in Missouri, as well as 11 reported
2222 bomb threats against Jewish community centers across the United
2323 States in one day have given rise to concerns about an increase in
2424 anti-Semitism across the country; and
2525 WHEREAS, The United States government has played an essential
2626 role in counteracting the resurgence of anti-Semitism worldwide and
2727 has consistently supported efforts to address the rise of
2828 anti-Semitism through its bilateral relationships and
2929 participation in international organizations such as the United
3030 Nations, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe,
3131 and the Organization of American States; and
3232 WHEREAS, The State of Texas applauds the United States and
3333 those foreign leaders who have condemned anti-Semitic acts and
3434 calls on those who have yet to take firm action against
3535 anti-Semitism in their countries to do so; and
3636 WHEREAS, The members of the Texas House of Representatives
3737 strongly condemn the recent acts of anti-Semitism and call on the
3838 President of the United States and members of Congress to follow
3939 suit; now, therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the members of the Texas House of
4141 Representatives support expanded anti-bias education programs in
4242 Texas public schools to increase awareness, counter prejudice and
4343 enhance efforts to teach the universal lessons of tolerance and
4444 inclusivity; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That the Chief Clerk of the Texas House of
4646 Representatives forward official copies of this resolution to the
4747 President of the United States, and to all members of the Texas
4848 delegation in Congress and request that this resolution be entered
4949 in the Congressional Record as a memorial to the Congress of the
5050 United States of America.
