| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Libby Averyt is retiring as president of the Corpus |

| 6 | 7 | | Christi Caller-Times on February 17, 2017, drawing to a close a |

| 7 | 8 | | notable tenure with the organization that has spanned more than |

| 8 | 9 | | three decades; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Averyt graduated with a bachelor's degree in |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | journalism from The University of Texas at Austin and a master's |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | degree in communication from Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi; |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | she began her career with the Caller-Times in 1986 as a night-shift |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | police reporter, and over the next quarter century, she steadily |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | advanced through the staff ranks to become the executive editor; a |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | highly esteemed journalist, she received the prestigious Edward |

| 16 | 17 | | Willis Scripps Award for Distinguished Service to the First |

| 17 | 18 | | Amendment in 1990; and |

| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In December 2010, Ms. Averyt was promoted to vice |

| 19 | 20 | | president of advertising, a position she held for four years before |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | being named president and publisher, earning the distinction of |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | becoming the first woman to serve as the newspaper's chief |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | executive; in that role, she has overseen the operations not only of |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | the Caller-Times but also of publications in Abilene, San Angelo, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | and Wichita Falls; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Averyt has been supported |

| 26 | 27 | | by the love and encouragement of her husband, Charles Kaffie Jr., |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | and their five children, Grace, Avery, William, Lauren, and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Charles; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Libby Averyt's vision, leadership, and commitment |

| 30 | 31 | | to excellence have greatly benefited the Corpus Christi |

| 31 | 32 | | Caller-Times, and she may indeed reflect with pride on all she has |

| 32 | 33 | | achieved as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; |
