5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Guinxe Gabriel, director of pharmacy services at |

6 | 7 | | CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi—South, has helped to deliver |

7 | 8 | | lifesaving medical care to thousands of people in his homeland of |
---|
8 | 9 | | Haiti; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Gabriel first led a group of 13 physicians and |
---|
10 | 11 | | nurses to Haiti in 2010, after it was ravaged by an earthquake in |
---|
11 | 12 | | January of that year; the group traveled at their own expense, and, |
---|
12 | 13 | | using donated antibiotics and other medications, treated more than |
---|
13 | 14 | | 1,000 residents over the course of a five-day trip; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Since that time, Mr. Gabriel's team has expanded and |
---|
15 | 16 | | has partnered with Northern New York Hope for Haiti, a nonprofit |
---|
16 | 17 | | organization that builds and operates health clinics in that |
---|
17 | 18 | | country; Mr. Gabriel has continued to visit Haiti for medical work |
---|
18 | 19 | | twice a year, in the fall with a group that primarily treats |
---|
19 | 20 | | patients with infectious diseases and in the spring with a group |
---|
20 | 21 | | whose physicians chiefly perform surgeries; after Hurricane |
---|
21 | 22 | | Matthew struck the southern part of Haiti in October 2016, NNY Hope |

22 | 23 | | for Haiti ventured to one of the areas that was hit hardest by the |
---|
23 | 24 | | storm and provided essential medical care, including treatment for |
---|
24 | 25 | | infections and malnutrition, to over 1,500 individuals; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Embodying the highest ideals of his profession, |
---|
26 | 27 | | Guinxe Gabriel has given of himself and his knowledge to alleviate |
---|
27 | 28 | | the suffering of people in direst need, and his selfless, steadfast |
---|
28 | 29 | | efforts continue to inspire the profound respect and admiration of |
---|
29 | 30 | | all who know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby honor Guinxe Gabriel for his medical missions to |
---|
32 | 33 | | Haiti and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success |

33 | 34 | | with his vital work; and, be it further |
