H.R. No. 617 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Marco Govea of McAllen has begun to win acclaim across the Rio Grande Valley and the State of Texas for his work as an artist; and WHEREAS, Marco Antonio Govea was born into a family of migrant workers in Iowa City, Iowa, in 1975; he grew up in Premont, Texas, and at the age of five, he started drawing murals in pencil on his bedroom wall; and WHEREAS, In 2001, Mr. Govea moved from San Antonio to the Rio Grande Valley, where he attended Texas State Technical College in Harlingen, earning an associate degree in drafting and design; he also studied charcoal and ink drawing with the artists Hector Aristo and Aldo Biglione; Mr. Govea began experimenting with acrylic and oil painting as well, and in 2005, he joined the McAllen Creative Incubator; and WHEREAS, Mr. Govea's art has been featured in many publications across the Valley, and he has shown work at art exhibitions and galleries in McAllen, Brownsville, and Corpus Christi; he has also demonstrated considerable talent in other genres, including photography, digital art, sculpture, print making, and woodworking, and he has completed several commissioned murals; his vivid and colorful work reflects such influences as expressionism, cubism, and surrealism, and some of his paintings reflect his Native American heritage as a Lipan Apache; and WHEREAS, Today, Marco Govea is at the peak of his creative powers, and his imaginative and distinctive artworks represent a significant contribution to the vibrant artistic community of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby commend Marco Govea on his achievements as an artist and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Govea as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
