| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Marco Govea of McAllen has begun to win acclaim |

| 6 | 7 | | across the Rio Grande Valley and the State of Texas for his work as |

| 7 | 8 | | an artist; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Marco Antonio Govea was born into a family of |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | migrant workers in Iowa City, Iowa, in 1975; he grew up in Premont, |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Texas, and at the age of five, he started drawing murals in pencil |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | on his bedroom wall; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, In 2001, Mr. Govea moved from San Antonio to the Rio |

| 13 | 14 | | Grande Valley, where he attended Texas State Technical College in |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Harlingen, earning an associate degree in drafting and design; he |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | also studied charcoal and ink drawing with the artists Hector |

| 16 | 17 | | Aristo and Aldo Biglione; Mr. Govea began experimenting with |

| 17 | 18 | | acrylic and oil painting as well, and in 2005, he joined the McAllen |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Creative Incubator; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Govea's art has been featured in many |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | publications across the Valley, and he has shown work at art |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | exhibitions and galleries in McAllen, Brownsville, and Corpus |

| 22 | 23 | | Christi; he has also demonstrated considerable talent in other |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | genres, including photography, digital art, sculpture, print |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | making, and woodworking, and he has completed several commissioned |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | murals; his vivid and colorful work reflects such influences as |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | expressionism, cubism, and surrealism, and some of his paintings |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | reflect his Native American heritage as a Lipan Apache; and |

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Today, Marco Govea is at the peak of his creative |

| 29 | 30 | | powers, and his imaginative and distinctive artworks represent a |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | significant contribution to the vibrant artistic community of the |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby commend Marco Govea on his achievements as an |

| 34 | 35 | | artist and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; |
