45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The Reverend James P. Thompson Jr. of Mount Olive
67 Baptist Church in Arlington is serving as Pastor of the Day for the
78 Texas House of Representatives on April 24, 2017; and
89 WHEREAS, A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Reverend Thompson
910 joined the staff of Mount Olive Baptist Church in 1984 as a
1011 minister; he became the youth pastor two years later, and he
1112 continued to serve in that role until 1994, when the church's senior
1213 pastor and congregation elected him pastor; and
1314 WHEREAS, Reverend Thompson is a graduate of the University of
1415 the District of Columbia and holds a master's degree in theological
1516 studies from the Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University;
1617 he also attended the Dallas Theological Seminary, and he has been
1718 recognized for his ministry with an honorary doctorate of
1819 humanities from the Southern Bible Institute, whose board he
1920 currently chairs; and
2021 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Reverend Thompson enjoys the
2122 love and support of his wife, Lalita Thompson, and their four
2223 children, Kanita, Jessica, James, and Megan; and
2324 WHEREAS, The Reverend James Thompson has inspired countless
2425 people with his message of faith and goodwill, and it is a pleasure
2526 to welcome him to this chamber; now, therefore, be it
2627 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2728 Legislature hereby recognize the Reverend James P. Thompson Jr. for
2829 his service as Pastor of the Day and extend to him sincere best
2930 wishes for the future; and, be it further
3031 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3132 prepared for Reverend Thompson as an expression of high regard by
3233 the Texas House of Representatives.
