| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Reverend James P. Thompson Jr. of Mount Olive |

| 6 | 7 | | Baptist Church in Arlington is serving as Pastor of the Day for the |

| 7 | 8 | | Texas House of Representatives on April 24, 2017; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Reverend Thompson |

| 9 | 10 | | joined the staff of Mount Olive Baptist Church in 1984 as a |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | minister; he became the youth pastor two years later, and he |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | continued to serve in that role until 1994, when the church's senior |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | pastor and congregation elected him pastor; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Reverend Thompson is a graduate of the University of |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | the District of Columbia and holds a master's degree in theological |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | studies from the Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University; |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | he also attended the Dallas Theological Seminary, and he has been |

| 17 | 18 | | recognized for his ministry with an honorary doctorate of |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | humanities from the Southern Bible Institute, whose board he |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | currently chairs; and |

| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Reverend Thompson enjoys the |

| 21 | 22 | | love and support of his wife, Lalita Thompson, and their four |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | children, Kanita, Jessica, James, and Megan; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The Reverend James Thompson has inspired countless |

| 24 | 25 | | people with his message of faith and goodwill, and it is a pleasure |

| 25 | 26 | | to welcome him to this chamber; now, therefore, be it |

| 26 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 27 | 28 | | Legislature hereby recognize the Reverend James P. Thompson Jr. for |

| 28 | 29 | | his service as Pastor of the Day and extend to him sincere best |
