| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

| 6 | 7 | | death of Robert K. Murphy of Houston on November 29, 2016, at the |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Bob Murphy was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Richard |

| 9 | 10 | | and Loretta Murphy; after graduating from Loyola Academy, he |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | answered his nation's call to duty and enlisted in the U.S. Marine |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Corps, serving during the Korean War and attaining the rank of |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | master sergeant; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life, Mr. Murphy married Joan |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Bowers in 1954, and they shared many happy years together until her |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | death; he was the proud father of five children, Mary Beth, Marilyn, |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Jim, Barbara, and Kathleen, and later in life, he was blessed with |

| 17 | 18 | | nine grandchildren, Christopher, Jonathan, Patrick, Nicholas, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Robert, Pace, Katie, Benjamin, and Emma, and a great-grandson, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | James; and |

| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, A resident of Houston since 1963, Mr. Murphy enjoyed |

| 21 | 22 | | a successful career with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance |

| 22 | 23 | | Company that spanned five decades, and he was active in his |

| 23 | 24 | | community and in local politics for most of his life as well; a man |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | of deep religious faith, he was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic |

| 25 | 26 | | Church and a patron of the Holy Name Retreat Center; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Proud of his Irish heritage, Mr. Murphy was an |

| 27 | 28 | | energetic, good-humored, and dynamic individual who knew his own |

| 28 | 29 | | mind; he loved music, he enjoyed playing golf and hunting, and he |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | particularly delighted in the time he spent with his children and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | grandchildren at his home on Inks Lake; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Bob Murphy embraced life to the fullest, and the |

| 32 | 33 | | memory of his optimism and gregarious laugh ensure that he will |

| 33 | 34 | | forever remain a vibrant presence in the lives of all those who knew |

| 34 | 35 | | and loved him; now, therefore, be it |

| 35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
