| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Each year, Texas transit agencies provide over 290 |

| 9 | 10 | | million passenger trips, enabling citizens to go to and from work, |

| 10 | 11 | | school, medical appointments, retail establishments, and other |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | destinations; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, These agencies operate a wide range of systems, |

| 13 | 14 | | among them rail, fixed-route bus lines, park-and-ride service, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | downtown trolleys, harbor ferries, van pools, tourist trams, and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | special event transport; in recent years, they have expanded access |

| 16 | 17 | | for individuals with disabilities through paratransit service, |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | accessible fixed-route service, and mobility improvements in the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | streets and sidewalks of their service areas; and |

| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The numerous agencies across Texas include the |

| 20 | 21 | | Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority, Capital Metro in |

| 21 | 22 | | Austin, the Fort Worth Transportation Authority, Dallas Area Rapid |

| 22 | 23 | | Transit, VIA Metropolitan Transit in San Antonio, the Metropolitan |

| 23 | 24 | | Transit Authority of Harris County, Sun Metro of El Paso, and Denton |

| 24 | 25 | | County Transportation Authority; since 1986, such agencies have |

| 25 | 26 | | enjoyed the support of the Texas Transit Association, which |

| 26 | 27 | | promotes public transportation and advocates for its members in |

| 27 | 28 | | metropolitan, small urban, and rural areas alike; and |

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Mass transit is vital to the continued prosperity of |

| 29 | 30 | | the Lone Star State, and through their dedicated endeavors, transit |

| 30 | 31 | | agency personnel contribute immeasurably to the quality of life in |

| 31 | 32 | | the communities they serve; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
