| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Hutto Independent School District has been named |

| 6 | 7 | | to the 7th Annual College Board AP District Honor Roll; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Hutto ISD was one of only 22 districts in Texas and |

| 8 | 9 | | 433 districts in the United States and Canada to be recognized in |

| 9 | 10 | | 2017; to earn this prestigious designation, a district must |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | increase the number of students participating in its advanced |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | placement program while also raising or maintaining the percentage |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | of individuals receiving scores of 3 or higher on AP exams; |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | achieving these goals shows that the district is successfully |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | reaching pupils who are academically prepared but might otherwise |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | not take AP classes; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, National data from 2016 show that among minority |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | students with a high degree of readiness for AP programs, only about |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | half are participating; AP students can earn college credit, saving |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | them money on tuition, and participants tend to have higher GPAs and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | are more likely to graduate from college within four years; for |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | these reasons, it is crucial that people of all backgrounds have |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | access to these programs; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, By fostering an educational environment where all |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | students are encouraged to take AP courses and exams, the Hutto |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Independent School District is helping area Texans reach their full |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | potential, and it is indeed deserving of this most recent honor; |

| 27 | 28 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 28 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 29 | 30 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Hutto Independent School |

| 31 | 32 | | and that the district's administrators, faculty, and staff be |
