45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Matt Lohmeier of the Corpus Christi Clergy Alliance
67 and Jesse Elizondo of the Homeless Issues Partnership are working
78 together to end chronic homelessness in Corpus Christi, and their
89 efforts are truly worthy of recognition; and
910 WHEREAS, According to the Homeless Issues Partnership,
1011 hundreds of people currently experience chronic homelessness in
1112 Corpus Christi; while many individuals can be helped through
1213 transitional housing initiatives, others, for a variety of reasons,
1314 are not well served by such programs; and
1415 WHEREAS, Mr. Lohmeier and Mr. Elizondo advocate for an
1516 approach that benefits all those in need of help; they support the
1617 housing-first model, which seeks to rehouse homeless individuals as
1718 quickly as possible as a means of restoring their dignity and which
1819 only subsequently addresses behavioral issues and social
1920 reintegration; the two civic leaders are focused on ending
2021 homelessness in Corpus Christi by 2019; and
2122 WHEREAS, Matt Lohmeier and Jesse Elizondo are committed to
2223 addressing a crisis that blights the lives of some of Corpus
2324 Christi's most vulnerable residents, and through their leadership
2425 in this effort, they are providing real hope to those who are
2526 directly affected and making an immeasurable contribution to the
2627 community at large; now, therefore, be it
2728 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2829 Legislature hereby honor Matt Lohmeier and Jesse Elizondo for their
2930 efforts to end chronic homelessness in Corpus Christi and extend to
3031 them sincere best wishes for success with their important work;
3132 and, be it further
3233 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
3334 for Mr. Lohmeier and Mr. Elizondo as an expression of high regard
3435 by the Texas House of Representatives.
