| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Matt Lohmeier of the Corpus Christi Clergy Alliance |

| 7 | 8 | | together to end chronic homelessness in Corpus Christi, and their |

| 8 | 9 | | efforts are truly worthy of recognition; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, According to the Homeless Issues Partnership, |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | hundreds of people currently experience chronic homelessness in |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Corpus Christi; while many individuals can be helped through |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | transitional housing initiatives, others, for a variety of reasons, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | are not well served by such programs; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Lohmeier and Mr. Elizondo advocate for an |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | approach that benefits all those in need of help; they support the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | housing-first model, which seeks to rehouse homeless individuals as |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | quickly as possible as a means of restoring their dignity and which |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | only subsequently addresses behavioral issues and social |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | reintegration; the two civic leaders are focused on ending |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | homelessness in Corpus Christi by 2019; and |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Matt Lohmeier and Jesse Elizondo are committed to |

| 22 | 23 | | addressing a crisis that blights the lives of some of Corpus |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Christi's most vulnerable residents, and through their leadership |

| 24 | 25 | | in this effort, they are providing real hope to those who are |

| 25 | 26 | | directly affected and making an immeasurable contribution to the |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | community at large; now, therefore, be it |

| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 28 | 29 | | Legislature hereby honor Matt Lohmeier and Jesse Elizondo for their |
