| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |

| 7 | 8 | | of Joe Henry Copes of Woodville, who passed away on February 13, |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The son of Beatrice Jackson-Copes and the Reverend |

| 10 | 11 | | Charles Copes, Joe Copes was born on September 13, 1943, in the |

| 11 | 12 | | small rural community of Dies in Tyler County and grew up with five |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | siblings, Maxine, Josephine, Charlene, Wanda, and Herbert; he |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | attended Scott High School in nearby Woodville and went on to serve |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | his country as a member of the U.S. Army; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A hardworking and dedicated employee, Mr. Copes |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | enjoyed a successful career at Keller Industries, and he later took |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | a job with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners; he |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | spent two decades traveling across the country as a union |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | representative before eventually retiring; he was also an active |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | member of the NAACP; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Copes took great pride in his 4 children, Gerry, |

| 22 | 23 | | Corey, Sheila, and Tanya, and he was further blessed with 13 |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | grandchildren, Jason, Sylvia, Lakeidra, Phenomia, Blake, Isaac, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Mataya, Carter, Darus, Savian, Monica, Veronica, and Vernon, as |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | well as 8 great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Joe Copes will |

| 27 | 28 | | remember the way he touched their lives with his wisdom and strength |

| 28 | 29 | | of character, and he will forever be remembered with great |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | admiration; now, therefore, be it |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Joe Henry Copes and |
