45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
67 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
78 of Joe Henry Copes of Woodville, who passed away on February 13,
89 2017, at the age of 73; and
910 WHEREAS, The son of Beatrice Jackson-Copes and the Reverend
1011 Charles Copes, Joe Copes was born on September 13, 1943, in the
1112 small rural community of Dies in Tyler County and grew up with five
1213 siblings, Maxine, Josephine, Charlene, Wanda, and Herbert; he
1314 attended Scott High School in nearby Woodville and went on to serve
1415 his country as a member of the U.S. Army; and
1516 WHEREAS, A hardworking and dedicated employee, Mr. Copes
1617 enjoyed a successful career at Keller Industries, and he later took
1718 a job with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners; he
1819 spent two decades traveling across the country as a union
1920 representative before eventually retiring; he was also an active
2021 member of the NAACP; and
2122 WHEREAS, Mr. Copes took great pride in his 4 children, Gerry,
2223 Corey, Sheila, and Tanya, and he was further blessed with 13
2324 grandchildren, Jason, Sylvia, Lakeidra, Phenomia, Blake, Isaac,
2425 Mataya, Carter, Darus, Savian, Monica, Veronica, and Vernon, as
2526 well as 8 great-grandchildren; and
2627 WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Joe Copes will
2728 remember the way he touched their lives with his wisdom and strength
2829 of character, and he will forever be remembered with great
2930 admiration; now, therefore, be it
3031 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3132 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Joe Henry Copes and
3233 extend sincere condolences to his many relatives and friends; and,
3334 be it further
3435 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3536 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3637 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Joe Copes.
