45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
67 memories of Charles Murray Oliver Jr. of Waxahachie, who died on
78 January 27, 2017, at the age of 85; and
89 WHEREAS, Charles Oliver was born in San Saba on January 25,
910 1932, to Dr. Charles Murray Oliver and Bertha Maureen Taylor
1011 Oliver; he attended Tarleton State University and earned his
1112 bachelor's degree in animal husbandry from Southwest Texas State
1213 Teachers College; answering his nation's call to duty, he served in
1314 the U.S. Air Force; and
1415 WHEREAS, Mr. Oliver enjoyed a long and successful career in
1516 the insurance industry; he was vice president and agency director
1617 for Southern Provident Life Insurance Company and the Dallas agency
1718 manager for American General Life Insurance Company before opening
1819 his own agency, Oliver & Associates; he was also active in the
1920 commercial real estate market, helping to develop the area around
2021 Galleria Dallas; and
2122 WHEREAS, In his private life, Mr. Oliver was a popular
2223 teacher and speaker on the subject of Texas history, and he
2324 established a working ranch to preserve the heritage of the West; he
2425 created the Homeplace Horse and Buggy Company to restore and build
2526 authentic horse-drawn vehicles, which were featured for nearly 40
2627 years at the Fort Worth Livestock Show and Rodeo Parade, and in
2728 1986, he served as president and chair of the Texas
2829 Sesquicentennial Wagon Train; a deacon at First Baptist Church of
2930 Dallas for 43 years, he combined his love of Western heritage and
3031 his deep religious faith through his work with the Cowboy Church
3132 movement and as the founder of the Chuck Wagon Ministry; he was also
3233 a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas; and
3334 WHEREAS, Mr. Oliver and his first wife, the late Mary Lou
3435 Luster, were blessed with two daughters, Susan Bradley and
3536 Elizabeth Herritage; in 1994, he married Pamela J. Bowman and he
3637 welcomed into his family her son, Damon Bowman; Mr. Oliver also took
3738 great pride in his six grandchildren, Taylor, Hunter, Hogan,
3839 Addison, Ethan, and Grace, and in his two great-grandchildren,
3940 Oliver and Davison; and
4041 WHEREAS, An engaged member of his community and a proud
4142 Texan, Charles Oliver lived a rich and purposeful life, and he will
4243 forever remain a vibrant presence in the hearts of all those who
4344 were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
4445 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
4546 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Charles Murray
4647 Oliver Jr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to his many relatives and
4748 friends; and, be it further
4849 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4950 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5051 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charles
5152 Murray Oliver Jr.
