H.R. No. 717 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Fabol R. Hughes is retiring from public service in 2017 at the conclusion of his second term as mayor of Katy, and it is indeed fitting to honor him for his service; and WHEREAS, First elected in 2013, Mayor Hughes was reelected unopposed in 2015; he has worked tirelessly to embrace growth and promote development while preserving the city's small-town appeal, and he has remained very accessible to residents, who can easily find him across the street from city hall at Snappy's Cafe and Grill; previously, he represented Ward B on the city council for three terms; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hughes has resided in Katy for more than four decades, and he has long been engaged in civic life; over the years, he has given generously of his time to support youth athletics, including Little League baseball, softball, soccer, and Katy High School football and baseball; in addition, he has been a sponsor of Katy Bengal Brigade and Katy FFA; he is also an active member of Katy First United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Katy Masonic Lodge; and WHEREAS, A veteran of the United States Navy, Mr. Hughes enlisted after high school, and he went on to attend San Jacinto Junior College and the University of Houston; he worked for Houston Lighting & Power Company for 15 years before embarking on a 32-year career with Farmers Insurance Group; in 2010, he joined RMC Insurance Services as an independent agent; and WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, he is supported by the love and encouragement of his wife of over 50 years, Paula Kay Hughes, and he takes great pride in his four children and four grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Mayor Hughes has demonstrated unyielding dedication to the betterment of Katy, and his contributions have earned the deep respect and admiration of his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby commend Mayor Fabol R. Hughes for his outstanding service to the City of Katy and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mayor Hughes as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
