45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Lucas Beltran of Corpus Christi has distinguished
67 himself as a freshman student-athlete on the United States Naval
78 Academy gymnastics team; and
89 WHEREAS, A graduate of Richard King High School, Lucas
910 Beltran was named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference's
1011 Rookie of the Week on February 8, 2017, after earning top scores at
1112 his first career Army-Navy Star Meet; during the contest, the
1213 all-around gymnast posted a 13.85 in the floor exercise and a 14.9
1314 on the vault, which at the time secured him sixth place in the
1415 overall NCAA season rankings for individual vault scores; and
1516 WHEREAS, Mr. Beltran also attained success this year at the
1617 2017 Navy Open in January, where he tied for second place in the
1718 parallel bars event with a score of 13.70, and he claimed seventh
1819 place for his season-best 13.60 performance on the rings at the
1920 All-Academy Championships on February 11, in San Antonio; and
2021 WHEREAS, Lucas Beltran has demonstrated the physical skill
2122 and mental fortitude necessary to contend with the top athletes in
2223 his sport while also maintaining the Naval Academy's rigorous
2324 academic standards, and he may indeed take great pride in his
2425 outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be it
2526 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2627 Legislature hereby congratulate Lucas Beltran on his success as a
2728 U.S. Naval Academy gymnast and extend to him sincere best wishes for
2829 the future; and, be it further
2930 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3031 prepared for Mr. Beltran as an expression of high regard by the
3132 Texas House of Representatives.
