 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Sterling Aviation High School in Houston is holding
 a groundbreaking ceremony on March 3rd, 2017, to commemorate the
 newly constructed $72 million facility, which opened its doors to
 students on January 4, 2017; and
 WHEREAS, This outstanding educational institution serves
 nearly 2,000 students in 9th through 12th grade; under the able
 leadership of principal Justin Fuentes, the 237,000-square-foot
 school offers an aviation school on-site, where the program also
 allows students to earn credit toward a pilot's license, which
 combines rigorous academics with real-world experiences to prepare
 students for professions in that vital field; and
 WHEREAS, Sterling Aviation High School is the first new
 comprehensive high school to be completed under Houston Independent
 School District's 2012 Bond Program and the first to be built in the
 district in almost 16 years; the addition includes a
 7,100-square-foot, two-story hangar, leaving students and
 instructors feeling sky high about the future of their program. Two
 small single-propeller planes fit inside the hangar along with 17
 aircraft engines that students can tinker with for hands-on
 learning, and the facility also includes an observation deck on the
 third floor where students can view the airport traffic control
 tower at Houston's William P. Hobby Airport, which is just miles
 away from the campus; and
 WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is of great importance
 to the future of our state, and with these vital renovations and
 construction to their campus, the faculty and staff of Sterling
 Aviation High School will be better equipped to help students reach
 their full potential and become engaged and productive members of
 the community; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the Sterling Aviation High School
 groundbreaking ceremony and extend to all those associated with the
 institution sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Sterling Aviation High School as an expression of high
 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
