| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Sterling Aviation High School in Houston is holding |

| 6 | 6 | | a groundbreaking ceremony on March 3rd, 2017, to commemorate the |

| 7 | 7 | | newly constructed $72 million facility, which opened its doors to |

| 8 | 8 | | students on January 4, 2017; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding educational institution serves |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | nearly 2,000 students in 9th through 12th grade; under the able |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | leadership of principal Justin Fuentes, the 237,000-square-foot |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | school offers an aviation school on-site, where the program also |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | allows students to earn credit toward a pilot's license, which |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | combines rigorous academics with real-world experiences to prepare |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | students for professions in that vital field; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Sterling Aviation High School is the first new |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | comprehensive high school to be completed under Houston Independent |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | School District's 2012 Bond Program and the first to be built in the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | district in almost 16 years; the addition includes a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | 7,100-square-foot, two-story hangar, leaving students and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | instructors feeling sky high about the future of their program. Two |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | small single-propeller planes fit inside the hangar along with 17 |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | aircraft engines that students can tinker with for hands-on |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | learning, and the facility also includes an observation deck on the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | third floor where students can view the airport traffic control |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | tower at Houston's William P. Hobby Airport, which is just miles |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | away from the campus; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is of great importance |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | to the future of our state, and with these vital renovations and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | construction to their campus, the faculty and staff of Sterling |

| 31 | 31 | | Aviation High School will be better equipped to help students reach |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | their full potential and become engaged and productive members of |
|---|
