45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
67 death of Henry Rugeley Ferguson of San Antonio on January 2, 2017,
78 at the age of 86; and
89 WHEREAS, Rugeley Ferguson was born in Houston on April 11,
910 1930, to William Brownlee Ferguson Jr. and Mary Le Tulle Rugeley; he
1011 attended Sewanee Military Academy and The University of Texas at
1112 Austin, and in his senior year, he was drafted into the U.S. Army;
1213 he served with distinction at Inchon in Korea from 1953 to 1955,
1314 earning the Bronze Star and retiring in the reserves at the rank of
1415 captain; and
1516 WHEREAS, In 1963, Mr. Ferguson married Kittie West Nelson,
1617 and the couple shared nearly four decades together; he was the proud
1718 father of two children, Kittie West Ferguson and Henry Rugeley
1819 Ferguson Jr., and later in life he was blessed with two
1920 grandchildren, Reese and Presley; and
2021 WHEREAS, Over the course of his working life, Mr. Ferguson
2122 looked after his family's ranch near Bay City, traveled the rodeo
2223 circuit as a professional bronc rider, managed the 20,000 acres of
2324 Hashknife Ranches, and bred and raised horses; and
2425 WHEREAS, Mr. Ferguson served his community as a director of
2526 Texas Agribusiness and Port City Stockyards and the Scobey Moving
2627 and Storage Company, as president of the San Antonio Zoological
2728 Society and the Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital Foundation, and
2829 as a board member of Sunshine Cottage School for Deaf Children, the
2930 San Antonio Museum Association, and the Charity Ball Association,
3031 among others; in addition, he was a member of the San Antonio
3132 Country Club, the Argyle Club, and Club Giraud, and he served as a
3233 Special Texas Ranger; and
3334 WHEREAS, A man of diverse interests, Mr. Ferguson rode horses
3435 until well into his 60s, logged more than 100 hours as a scuba diver
3536 in the Caribbean, and enjoyed hunting with his friends and
3637 acquaintances; he also took delight in travel, lively conversation,
3738 and art, and his extensive personal collection of Wedgwood china is
3839 on loan to the San Antonio Museum of Art; and
3940 WHEREAS, A true Texas gentleman, Rugeley Ferguson lived his
4041 life to the fullest, and he will forever remain a vibrant presence
4142 for those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it
4243 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
4344 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Henry Rugeley
4445 Ferguson and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his
4546 passing; and, be it further
4647 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4748 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4849 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Rugeley
4950 Ferguson.
