| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Echota Cherokee are descended from survivors of |

| 9 | 10 | | the infamous "Trail of Tears," the forced relocation of the |

| 10 | 11 | | Cherokee from their ancestral lands in the Southeastern United |

| 11 | 12 | | States to territories west of the Mississippi River in the 1830s; |

| 12 | 13 | | today, about 60 people make up the Echota Cherokee of Texas, one of |

| 13 | 14 | | several Echota groups in the nation; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Stuart Parsons Sr. played a leading role in the |

| 15 | 16 | | establishment of the Echota Cherokee Clan in Texas; a member of the |

| 16 | 17 | | Batey family through his mother, Evelyn Batey Parsons, he was |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | appointed as the clan's first chief by Chief Charlotte Hallmark of |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | the Echota Cherokee of Alabama in 2012, and he has been reelected by |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | the Texas clan's members in the years since; he has also represented |

| 20 | 21 | | the Echota Cherokee of Alabama at the National Congress of American |

| 21 | 22 | | Indians, and he is the owner of a commercial roofing business in |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Wynnfred Batey is also part of the Batey family |

| 24 | 25 | | lineage, and he has served alongside Chief Parsons as vice chief |

| 25 | 26 | | since 2012; Andrew Parsons Jr. is likewise a member of the Batey |

| 26 | 27 | | family, and he has held the office of secretary since January 2017; |
