45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A rich and rewarding life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Anita Palmer Hackley of Jacksboro on January 6, 2017, at
78 the age of 71; and
89 WHEREAS, The former Anita Smith was born on July 29, 1945, in
910 Altus, Oklahoma, to Wallace William and Lottie Ann Smith; she
1011 married Johnny T. Palmer in 1997, and the couple shared more than a
1112 decade together until his passing in 2008; fortunate enough to find
1213 love again, she exchanged wedding vows in 2013 with John Hackley,
1314 and their blended family included three sons, Scott, Mike, and
1415 John, and two daughters, Mary Kay and Babe; and
1516 WHEREAS, Retired from a career as an educator, Anita Hackley
1617 served as president of the Olney Retired Teachers Association, as
1718 vice president of the District IX Retired Teachers, and as a board
1819 member for the Teacher Retirement System of Texas; she was also
1920 active as president of the Olney Hamilton Hospital Foundation and
2021 as a consumer member of the Texas State Board of Vocational Nursing,
2122 as well as a director of the Faith Community Hospital Foundation of
2223 Jacksboro; one of her proudest achievements was the establishment
2324 of Anita's House, a place near Olney Hamilton Hospital where
2425 patients' families can stay, regardless of their ability to pay;
2526 and
2627 WHEREAS, Ms. Hackley was a talented artist as well, and she
2728 was a member of Women Artists of the West, the National Oil and
2829 Acrylic Painters Society, and the American Academy of Equine Art;
2930 her cheerful disposition and joie de vivre were known to be
3031 infectious to those around her, and she found guidance and
3132 inspiration in her faith, which led to her active membership in the
3233 Jacksboro Parish; and
3334 WHEREAS, In every sphere of endeavor, Anita Palmer Hackley
3435 demonstrated exceptional dedication, generosity, and kindness
3536 toward others, and memories of this vibrant, gracious woman will
3637 forever be treasured by all those who were privileged to know her;
3738 now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Anita Palmer Hackley
4041 and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her
4142 husband, John Hackley; to her sons, Scott Palmer, Mike Palmer, and
4243 John Brentnall Hackley; to her daughter, Mary Kay Hackley; to her
4344 siblings, Troy Gene Smith and Mary Perry; to her son-in-law, Harley
4445 Portwood; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4546 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4647 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4748 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Anita
4849 Palmer Hackley.
