| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, St. Mary Catholic School in Gainesville celebrated |

| 6 | 7 | | its 125th anniversary in 2016; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Founded by the Benedictine Sisters in 1891, the |

| 8 | 9 | | school served 32 students in 1902, when the School Sisters of Notre |

| 9 | 10 | | Dame took charge of the six-room frame building; enrollment soon |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | thereafter increased to 75, and the school began offering high |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | school classes in 1905; its first senior class graduated the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | following year; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The present-day school building was completed in |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | 1948, becoming the first major structure erected in Gainesville |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | following World War II; some three decades later, it was completely |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | remodeled, and subsequently, a junior high section and a gymnasium |

| 17 | 18 | | were built; the School Sisters of Notre Dame withdrew from direct |

| 18 | 19 | | administration and classroom instruction in the 1980s; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In 2004, the Early Learning Childhood Center was |

| 20 | 21 | | added, and more recently, the lower elementary classrooms were |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | renovated and equipped with updated technology; the school today |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | provides a faith-based learning environment to children from |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | prekindergarten through the eighth grade; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is a vital enterprise, |

| 25 | 26 | | and for more than 125 years, the faculty and staff at St. Mary |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Catholic School have dedicated themselves to equipping students |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | with a lifelong love of learning that will serve them well |

| 28 | 29 | | throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 30 | 31 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 125th anniversary of St. Mary |

| 31 | 32 | | Catholic School and extend to all those associated with the |

| 32 | 33 | | institution sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
