| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Falls County Sheriff Ben Kirk retired on January 1, |

| 6 | 7 | | 2017, concluding a distinguished law enforcement career that |

| 7 | 8 | | spanned more than four decades; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A veteran peace officer, Ben Kirk entered the |

| 9 | 10 | | profession as a communications operator in 1973, and he went on to |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | work as a sheriff's deputy for over two decades; in 1997, he joined |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | the Marlin Police Department as a patrol sergeant and earned |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | promotion to chief of police the following year; he first took |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | office as Falls County sheriff on January 1, 2001, and he served his |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | fellow citizens with distinction for four consecutive terms; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Noted for his calm demeanor, his personal integrity, |

| 16 | 17 | | and his commitment to his profession, Sheriff Kirk has earned the |

| 17 | 18 | | admiration of county residents and law enforcement officers alike; |

| 18 | 19 | | in all his endeavors, he has enjoyed the love and support of a |

| 19 | 20 | | caring family that includes his wife, JoAnn, and his two daughters, |

| 20 | 21 | | Ulonda and Tiffany; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his 43 years as a public servant, Ben |

| 22 | 23 | | Kirk has dedicated himself to the safety and well-being of his |

| 23 | 24 | | fellow Texans, and he may indeed reflect with great pride on his |

| 24 | 25 | | many accomplishments as he looks forward to the next exciting |

| 25 | 26 | | chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |

| 26 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
