| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. George N. Smith of West is being recognized as |

| 6 | 7 | | the Family Physician of the Year at the American College of |

| 7 | 8 | | Osteopathic Family Physicians conference in March 2017; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from the Kansas City University |

| 9 | 10 | | College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1974, Dr. Smith went on to build |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | a rewarding career practicing family medicine in West; he has |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | served as the emergency medical services director for the town, and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | he helped coordinate relief efforts following the 2013 explosion of |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | a local fertilizer plant; despite sustaining injuries himself, he |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | assisted in evacuating residents of a nearby nursing home, and he |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | ensured that emergency responders were notified of the disaster; |

| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, For his dedicated work in behalf of his community, |

| 18 | 19 | | Dr. Smith was named the 2002 Citizen of the Year by the West Chamber |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | of Commerce, and he had the honor of running with the Olympic torch |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | in Texas; and |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Smith has also shared his knowledge and |

| 22 | 23 | | expertise with a number of worthy professional organizations, |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | including the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association, the Texas |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Medical Directors Association, the West Hospital Authority, and the |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | West Medical Surgical Clinic; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Dr. George Smith has demonstrated an unwavering |

| 27 | 28 | | commitment to the health and well-being of his fellow Texans, and it |

| 28 | 29 | | is a pleasure to join in honoring him for his notable contributions |

| 29 | 30 | | to his field and his community; now, therefore, be it |
