No. 804 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, State Representative Armando Walle added to his considerable record of achievement by passing the Texas State Bar exam in July 2016; and WHEREAS, Born in Houston and raised by a single mother, Representative Walle graduated with honors from MacArthur High School and earned his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Houston; the first in his family to go to college, he spearheaded efforts while at UH to recruit other qualified Hispanic students, and he served as a mentor for at-risk high schoolers; he also participated in the Texas Legislative Internship Program, sponsored by Senator Rodney Ellis; and WHEREAS, Early in his career, Representative Walle worked to expand community outreach efforts, such as youth sports leagues and adult GED programs; he sat on the board of the Aldine-Greenspoint YMCA, and he served as president of the Ambassadors International Ballet Folklorico and as chair of the Harris County Tejano Democrats; and WHEREAS, Representative Walle began his career in public service as an aide to Houston City Council member Carol Mims Galloway; he went on to join the staff of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and subsequently spent six years with the office of Congressman Gene Green, where he oversaw such projects as Immunization Day, Paying for College workshops, and senior citizen issues forums; and WHEREAS, Elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2008, Representative Walle is currently serving his fifth term; he has authored and advocated for many proposals in behalf of his district, seeking to increase neighborhood safety, encourage local development, and improve the quality of life in the Aldine and Northside areas of Houston; he currently serves as vice chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Articles VI, VII, and VIII, and he is a member of the Appropriations Committee, the Subcommittee on Budget Transparency and Reform, and the Energy Resources Committee; and WHEREAS, Over the past several years, Representative Walle found time in his busy schedule to earn his J.D. at the University of Houston Law Center; and WHEREAS, Throughout his career, this dynamic public servant has worked tirelessly to advance the welfare of his fellow citizens, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his deep and full engagement with the issues and challenges that face the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Armando Walle on passing the Texas State Bar exam and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Representative Walle as an expression of high regard by his friends and colleagues in the Texas House of Representatives.
