 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The life of a distinguished jurist drew to a close
 with the passing of the Honorable Robert C. Cheshire of Victoria on
 February 20, 2017, at the age of 64; and
 WHEREAS, Born on December 30, 1952, Robert Cheshire was the
 son of Marvin and Nadine Yearta Cheshire; he graduated from
 Victoria High School in 1970, and he earned his bachelor's degree in
 history from The University of Texas at Austin in 1972, at the age
 of 19; in 1977, he received his doctor of jurisprudence degree with
 honors from the University of Houston Law School, and he
 subsequently worked for 10 years as an attorney in private
 practice; and
 WHEREAS, Robert Cheshire was appointed by Governor Bill
 Clements to preside over the newly created 377th District Court in
 Victoria in 1989; during his 25 years on the bench, he established a
 reputation for integrity and impartiality, and he was noted for his
 tireless work ethic; a lifelong student of the law, he enjoyed
 researching opinions from state and federal courts, and his
 colleagues in the legal profession frequently sought his advice and
 mentorship; and
 WHEREAS, Selfless in his commitment to others, Judge Cheshire
 volunteered his time with the Victoria Jaycees and the Rotary Club
 and also served as superintendent of the Victoria Livestock Show;
 after retiring in 2014, he elected to take senior judge status and
 continued hearing cases in the Victoria area and other South Texas
 counties; and
 WHEREAS, This devoted family man enjoyed the love and support
 of his wife, Debbie, with whom he shared more than 40 years, and he
 took great pride in their children, Shauna and Chad, and their
 granddaughters, Audrey and Katie; he and his wife took pleasure in
 traveling the country to see their favorite bands, and he was also
 fond of spending time at Lake Conroe; and
 WHEREAS, Admired for his wisdom, compassion, and dedication,
 Robert Cheshire leaves behind a record of service that will long
 resonate in Victoria County and beyond; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Judge Robert
 C. Cheshire and extend sincere sympathy to his relatives and
 friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert
 Cheshire.
