45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Nueces County Community Services held its 29th
67 Annual Valentine Queen Coronation and Dance on February 14, 2017;
78 and
89 WHEREAS, Under the leadership of director Edward Herrera and
910 assistant director Marcy Santos, this vital organization operates
1011 community centers in Robstown, Agua Dulce, Banquete, Bishop, and
1112 Driscoll; there, senior citizens can receive nutritious meals and
1213 health screenings and take part in a variety of educational and
1314 nutritional presentations and fun social activities, including
1415 bingo, crafts, exercise classes, and shopping trips; moreover, each
1516 year the agency puts on a Valentine's Day dance, where a highly
1617 respected woman from each of the community centers is awarded the
1718 title of Valentine Queen; and
1819 WHEREAS, The five Valentine Queens honored at the 2017 dance
1920 were Elena Lopez of Agua Dulce, Aurora Perez of Banquete, Bernadina
2021 Ramos of Robstown, Diana Briones of Driscoll, and Eva Romero of
2122 Bishop; accompanied by their escorts, these notable women took part
2223 in the grand march before being officially crowned by county
2324 commissioners John Marez of Precinct No. 3 and Joe A. Gonzalez of
2425 Precinct No. 2; following the coronation ceremony, attendees
2526 enjoyed a variety of refreshments and showed off their moves on the
2627 dance floor; and
2728 WHEREAS, Nueces County Community Services provides important
2829 opportunities for the local senior population to stay active and
2930 engaged and to meet new people, and it is indeed deserving of
3031 special recognition for its contributions to the quality of life
3132 for area citizens; now, therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3334 Legislature hereby commemorate the 29th Annual Valentine Queen
3435 Coronation and Dance hosted by Nueces County Community Services and
3536 extend to all those associated with the organization sincere best
3637 wishes for the future; and, be it further
3738 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3839 prepared for Nueces County Community Services as an expression of
3940 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
