H.R. No. 810 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Goodwill Industries of South Texas is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its annual 10K and 5K run/walk fund-raiser in 2017; and WHEREAS, A not-for-profit agency incorporated in 1948, Goodwill Industries of South Texas serves a territory spanning 20 counties; the organization's primary mission is to provide jobs and job-training programs for persons with disabilities and other barriers to employment, and its recent efforts have been focused on assisting veterans, including homeless veterans, in making the successful transition to civilian life; in 2015 alone, Goodwill's programs benefited more than 5,100 people in the Coastal Bend area; and WHEREAS, The Goodwill 10K and 5K road race in Corpus Christi, held for its 30th year on March 4, 2017, is the organization's largest fund-raiser in the region; proceeds from the event, which last year totaled $43,000, support programs offering job training, employment placement, financial literacy, clothing vouchers, and résumé workshops for area residents in need; and WHEREAS, Over the course of its history, Goodwill has made a lasting, positive difference in the lives of countless South Texans, and its annual 10K and 5K fund-raiser has played a significant role in enabling the organization to pursue its charitable goals; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby honor Goodwill Industries of South Texas on the 30th anniversary of its 10K and 5K run/walk fund-raiser and extend to the agency's members sincere best wishes for continued success with their important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Goodwill Industries of South Texas as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
