H.R. No. 828
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, B.I.G. Love Cancer Care celebrated the 10th
anniversary of its founding on February 19, 2017; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding nonprofit group was founded by
Chaney and Jessica Phillips in memory of their daughter, Brooke
Alyson Phillips, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia at
the age of three and passed away two years later on September 29,
2006; inspired by their daughter's compassionate love for all
people and their firsthand experience of the burdens that a family
endures as their child fights a life-threatening disease, Mr. and
Ms. Phillips established the organization to provide support to
children receiving hematology-oncology inpatient care; and
WHEREAS, Over the past decade, B.I.G. Love has held nine fun
runs and raised nearly $2.5 million, which has helped to cover
hospital parking passes, catered meals, and other such practical
needs of families dealing with childhood cancer; moreover, this
noteworthy group also enables young patients to enjoy plenty of
laughter, happiness, and comfort; to date, it has granted 31,200
wishes and donated 400,000 toys and 3,500 holiday baskets and gifts
for children undergoing treatment; and
WHEREAS, For its 10th anniversary, B.I.G. Love is hosting
celebrations at the four health care centers it serves: Texas
Children's Hospital campuses in Houston, Katy, and The Woodlands
and the Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin; and
WHEREAS, Embodying the kindness, generosity, and warmth of
Brooke Alyson Phillips, B.I.G. Love is making a profound difference
in the lives of young cancer patients and their families, and all
those associated with the organization are indeed deserving of
recognition on the occasion of this important milestone; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the 10th anniversary of B.I.G. Love
Cancer Care and extend to Chaney and Jessica Phillips sincere best
wishes for continued success with their important work; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for B.I.G. Love Cancer Care as an expression of high regard
by the Texas House of Representatives.
