R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Barbara Metch of Canton has been named the 2017
Texas Polled Hereford Honoree by the Texas Polled Hereford
Association; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the advancement of the Polled Hereford,
Barbara Metch serves on the National Hereford Woman Board and works
with the National Queen Committee, Membership Committee, and
History Committee, among others; she is vice president of the North
East Texas Hereford Association and a member of the boards of the
Magnolia Hereford Association and Cross Timbers Hereford
Association; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Metch was the first woman elected as a director
of the Texas Polled Hereford Board, and she served as president for
several years during her second term; in addition, she was the
founding copresident of the Hereford Youth Foundation of America,
and she was president of both the national and Texas Poll-ettes
division of the Polled Hereford Association; she further served the
national Poll-ettes in a number of capacities, including chair and
vice chair; also working to benefit her community, she is treasurer
of the Van Zandt County AgriLife Extension leadership board and she
serves the Van Zandt County Fair board as both Master Showmanship
and Open Beef Show chair; and
WHEREAS, Raised in New Jersey, Ms. Metch has been involved in
showing cattle since she was 10 years old; her first steer, a Polled
Hereford, was selected as Grand Champion Steer, and she went on to
serve the 4-H in numerous leadership roles; she eventually launched
the New Jersey Polled Hereford Association and served as its
president for four years; still dedicated to 4-H, she serves as
manager of her local club; she is the proprietor of Metch Polled
Herefords, which has bred cattle for 45 years; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Metch has contributed immeasurably to the
development of the Polled Hereford, and she is richly deserving of
this prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Barbara Metch on her selection as
the 2017 Texas Polled Hereford Honoree by the Texas Polled Hereford
Association and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Metch as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
