| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to the advancement of the Polled Hereford, |

| 9 | 10 | | Barbara Metch serves on the National Hereford Woman Board and works |

| 10 | 11 | | with the National Queen Committee, Membership Committee, and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | History Committee, among others; she is vice president of the North |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | East Texas Hereford Association and a member of the boards of the |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Magnolia Hereford Association and Cross Timbers Hereford |

| 14 | 15 | | Association; and |

| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Metch was the first woman elected as a director |

| 16 | 17 | | of the Texas Polled Hereford Board, and she served as president for |

| 17 | 18 | | several years during her second term; in addition, she was the |

| 18 | 19 | | founding copresident of the Hereford Youth Foundation of America, |

| 19 | 20 | | and she was president of both the national and Texas Poll-ettes |

| 20 | 21 | | division of the Polled Hereford Association; she further served the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | national Poll-ettes in a number of capacities, including chair and |

| 22 | 23 | | vice chair; also working to benefit her community, she is treasurer |

| 23 | 24 | | of the Van Zandt County AgriLife Extension leadership board and she |

| 24 | 25 | | serves the Van Zandt County Fair board as both Master Showmanship |

| 25 | 26 | | and Open Beef Show chair; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Raised in New Jersey, Ms. Metch has been involved in |

| 27 | 28 | | showing cattle since she was 10 years old; her first steer, a Polled |

| 28 | 29 | | Hereford, was selected as Grand Champion Steer, and she went on to |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | serve the 4-H in numerous leadership roles; she eventually launched |

| 30 | 31 | | the New Jersey Polled Hereford Association and served as its |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | president for four years; still dedicated to 4-H, she serves as |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | manager of her local club; she is the proprietor of Metch Polled |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | Herefords, which has bred cattle for 45 years; and |

| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Barbara Metch has contributed immeasurably to the |

| 35 | 36 | | development of the Polled Hereford, and she is richly deserving of |

| 36 | 37 | | this prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it |

| 37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Barbara Metch on her selection as |

| 39 | 40 | | the 2017 Texas Polled Hereford Honoree by the Texas Polled Hereford |
