| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Jose |

| 6 | 7 | | Juan Esquivel Sr. of Robstown, who passed away on February 25, 2017, |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Noberto Esquivel and Paula Gutierrez |

| 9 | 10 | | Esquivel, Johnny Esquivel was born in Alice on May 13, 1941; he grew |

| 10 | 11 | | up in Robstown with four brothers, Crisanto, Daniel, Noberto, and |

| 11 | 12 | | Joe, and two sisters, Mena and Minerva; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Esquivel shared a fulfilling marriage of 53 |

| 13 | 14 | | years with his wife, Maria Esquivel; he was the devoted father of |

| 14 | 15 | | Jose Juan "Johnny" Esquivel Jr., and he took great pride in his |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | grandchildren, Jose Juan "Trey" Esquivel III, Ashley Esquivel, and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Kevin Esquivel, and in his great-grandchildren, Mallory, Hailey, |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Valerie, Riley, Candace, Cyenna, and Caroline; a man of faith, he |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | was a valued member of St. Anthony Catholic Church; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan began his 55-year career in |

| 20 | 21 | | restaurant management at Joe Cotten's BBQ, and he was subsequently |

| 21 | 22 | | employed by Mike Cotten's BBQ; his contributions earned the |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | affection and appreciation of his customers and three generations |

| 23 | 24 | | of Cotten restaurateurs; and |

| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Although Johnny Esquivel will be deeply missed, he |

| 25 | 26 | | has left his family and friends with a wealth of memories that they |

| 26 | 27 | | will forever treasure; now, therefore, be it |

| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 28 | 29 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Johnny Esquivel Sr. |
