| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Charles Ray Sims is being presented with a Lifetime |

| 6 | 7 | | Achievement Award by the City of Cedar Hill on March 28, 2017; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Sims enjoyed a notable career as a firefighter |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | that spanned more than four and a half decades; in 1949, he joined |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | the Cedar Hill Volunteer Fire Department, where he eventually |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | became the city's first paid fire chief; he retired from that post |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | in February 1995, and five years later, the city honored his |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | exemplary service by renaming the Central Fire Station in his |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | honor; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A member of the Cedar Hill High School Class of 1943, |

| 15 | 16 | | Mr. Sims answered his nation's call to duty during World War II as a |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | member of the U.S. Army, serving primarily in the Pacific theater; |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | following his discharge, he was employed at the Reserve Life |

| 18 | 19 | | Insurance Company in Dallas for 15 years and subsequently began |

| 19 | 20 | | working at Sims Grocery, which he and his wife, Verna Jean, later |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | acquired; the couple operated the store until 1984; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Through his long-standing commitment to protecting |

| 22 | 23 | | the lives and property of his fellow citizens, Charles Ray Sims has |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | earned the lasting gratitude of the Cedar Hill community, and it is |

| 24 | 25 | | indeed a pleasure to join in recognizing him on this special |

| 25 | 26 | | occasion; now, therefore, be it |

| 26 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
