 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Texas A&M University at Galveston broke ground for
 the second phase of its academic complex project on February 16,
 2017; and
 WHEREAS, This special-purpose Texas A&M campus features a
 curriculum centered on marine studies and maritime technology; over
 the past 16 years, its enrollment has grown more than tenfold, and
 the school's new academic complex will position the campus for
 continued growth; and
 WHEREAS, The fourth major building to be started on the
 grounds in three years, this 38,000-square-foot facility features
 colors, materials, and design details that will enhance the
 university's "front door" and make a dramatic first impression on
 visitors; a pedestrian mall between this new building and one
 erected during the first phase of construction will draw the eye to
 Bracewell Clock Tower while serving as a passage between the
 entrance to campus and the quadrangle at its heart; and
 WHEREAS, Once completed, the state-of-the-art building will
 include a large lecture hall that can be subdivided into smaller
 lecture spaces, along with seminar rooms, mail and copy services,
 the campus bookstore, and the offices of the school's
 administration and auxiliary services; the copious use of glass in
 the design will provide ample natural light to the interior while
 adding to the building's visual appeal; and
 WHEREAS, With its specialized educational program and
 growing student body, Texas A&M University at Galveston is a campus
 on the move, and this striking new facility will contribute greatly
 to the future success of the university; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the groundbreaking of the second
 phase of the academic complex project at Texas A&M University at
 Galveston and extend to the school's administration, faculty,
 staff, and students sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the university as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
