 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Colonel Troy Coronado retired from the United
 States Army on February 28, 2017, drawing to a close 28 years of
 exemplary service to his fellow citizens; and
 WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Troy Coronado was raised in
 a military family and attended schools in Germany and Panama before
 graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in his hometown in 1980;
 he subsequently attended the University of Maryland campus in
 Munich, Germany, and later earned a bachelor's degree in history
 from Midwestern State University and a master's degree in education
 from Western Maryland College; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Coronado enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1986, and
 after graduating from Officer Candidate School two years later, he
 held command positions in Germany that continued until 1991; he
 began part-time service with the Maryland National Guard in 1993
 and held a similar position with the Massachusetts National Guard
 before once again becoming a full-time soldier with the National
 Guard Bureau; over the next decade, he completed a series of
 assignments, including a posting at the Department of the Army
 Headquarters at the Pentagon in 2004 and 2005; and
 WHEREAS, This dedicated officer completed his first combat
 tour in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2006,
 working as an embedded team trainer; following his return to the
 United States, he undertook additional duties at the Pentagon, and
 his subsequent postings included service as the branch chief of the
 National Guard Bureau Joint Staff and as chief of the bureau's U.S.
 Southern Command and its Assistance Division; he returned to
 Afghanistan as a command inspector general in 2014 and then closed
 out his career in assignments with the Warrior Transition Brigade
 at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland;
 and
 WHEREAS, A highly decorated officer, Colonel Coronado is the
 recipient of such prestigious military awards as the Legion of
 Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Defense Meritorious Service
 Medal, and he was inducted into the Officer Candidate School Hall of
 Fame at Fort Benning, Georgia, in 2016; he has been supported in all
 his endeavors by the love and encouragement of his wife, Lisa, and
 their three daughters, Raquel, Jaqueline, and Mindy; and
 WHEREAS, This patriotic Texan has exemplified the highest
 ideals of the United States armed forces, and his outstanding
 contributions to the defense of our nation are indeed deserving of
 our deepest gratitude and respect; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Colonel Troy Coronado on his
 retirement from the United States Army and extend to him sincere
 best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Colonel Coronado as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
