5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Colonel Troy Coronado retired from the United |

6 | 7 | | States Army on February 28, 2017, drawing to a close 28 years of |

7 | 8 | | exemplary service to his fellow citizens; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Troy Coronado was raised in |
---|
9 | 10 | | a military family and attended schools in Germany and Panama before |
---|
10 | 11 | | graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in his hometown in 1980; |
---|
11 | 12 | | he subsequently attended the University of Maryland campus in |
---|
12 | 13 | | Munich, Germany, and later earned a bachelor's degree in history |
---|
13 | 14 | | from Midwestern State University and a master's degree in education |
---|
14 | 15 | | from Western Maryland College; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Coronado enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1986, and |
---|
16 | 17 | | after graduating from Officer Candidate School two years later, he |
---|
17 | 18 | | held command positions in Germany that continued until 1991; he |
---|
18 | 19 | | began part-time service with the Maryland National Guard in 1993 |
---|
19 | 20 | | and held a similar position with the Massachusetts National Guard |
---|
20 | 21 | | before once again becoming a full-time soldier with the National |
---|
21 | 22 | | Guard Bureau; over the next decade, he completed a series of |
---|
22 | 23 | | assignments, including a posting at the Department of the Army |
---|
23 | 24 | | Headquarters at the Pentagon in 2004 and 2005; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, This dedicated officer completed his first combat |
---|
25 | 26 | | tour in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2006, |
---|
26 | 27 | | working as an embedded team trainer; following his return to the |
---|
27 | 28 | | United States, he undertook additional duties at the Pentagon, and |
---|
28 | 29 | | his subsequent postings included service as the branch chief of the |
---|
29 | 30 | | National Guard Bureau Joint Staff and as chief of the bureau's U.S. |
---|
30 | 31 | | Southern Command and its Assistance Division; he returned to |
---|
31 | 32 | | Afghanistan as a command inspector general in 2014 and then closed |
---|
32 | 33 | | out his career in assignments with the Warrior Transition Brigade |
---|
33 | 34 | | at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland; |
---|
34 | 35 | | and |

35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, A highly decorated officer, Colonel Coronado is the |

36 | 37 | | recipient of such prestigious military awards as the Legion of |
---|
37 | 38 | | Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Defense Meritorious Service |

38 | 39 | | Medal, and he was inducted into the Officer Candidate School Hall of |
---|
39 | 40 | | Fame at Fort Benning, Georgia, in 2016; he has been supported in all |
---|
40 | 41 | | his endeavors by the love and encouragement of his wife, Lisa, and |
---|
41 | 42 | | their three daughters, Raquel, Jaqueline, and Mindy; and |
---|
42 | 43 | | WHEREAS, This patriotic Texan has exemplified the highest |
---|
43 | 44 | | ideals of the United States armed forces, and his outstanding |
---|
44 | 45 | | contributions to the defense of our nation are indeed deserving of |
---|
45 | 46 | | our deepest gratitude and respect; now, therefore, be it |
---|
46 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
---|
47 | 48 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Colonel Troy Coronado on his |
---|
48 | 49 | | retirement from the United States Army and extend to him sincere |
---|
49 | 50 | | best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
