45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Colonel Troy Coronado retired from the United
67 States Army on February 28, 2017, drawing to a close 28 years of
78 exemplary service to his fellow citizens; and
89 WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Troy Coronado was raised in
910 a military family and attended schools in Germany and Panama before
1011 graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in his hometown in 1980;
1112 he subsequently attended the University of Maryland campus in
1213 Munich, Germany, and later earned a bachelor's degree in history
1314 from Midwestern State University and a master's degree in education
1415 from Western Maryland College; and
1516 WHEREAS, Mr. Coronado enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1986, and
1617 after graduating from Officer Candidate School two years later, he
1718 held command positions in Germany that continued until 1991; he
1819 began part-time service with the Maryland National Guard in 1993
1920 and held a similar position with the Massachusetts National Guard
2021 before once again becoming a full-time soldier with the National
2122 Guard Bureau; over the next decade, he completed a series of
2223 assignments, including a posting at the Department of the Army
2324 Headquarters at the Pentagon in 2004 and 2005; and
2425 WHEREAS, This dedicated officer completed his first combat
2526 tour in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2006,
2627 working as an embedded team trainer; following his return to the
2728 United States, he undertook additional duties at the Pentagon, and
2829 his subsequent postings included service as the branch chief of the
2930 National Guard Bureau Joint Staff and as chief of the bureau's U.S.
3031 Southern Command and its Assistance Division; he returned to
3132 Afghanistan as a command inspector general in 2014 and then closed
3233 out his career in assignments with the Warrior Transition Brigade
3334 at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland;
3435 and
3536 WHEREAS, A highly decorated officer, Colonel Coronado is the
3637 recipient of such prestigious military awards as the Legion of
3738 Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Defense Meritorious Service
3839 Medal, and he was inducted into the Officer Candidate School Hall of
3940 Fame at Fort Benning, Georgia, in 2016; he has been supported in all
4041 his endeavors by the love and encouragement of his wife, Lisa, and
4142 their three daughters, Raquel, Jaqueline, and Mindy; and
4243 WHEREAS, This patriotic Texan has exemplified the highest
4344 ideals of the United States armed forces, and his outstanding
4445 contributions to the defense of our nation are indeed deserving of
4546 our deepest gratitude and respect; now, therefore, be it
4647 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
4748 Legislature hereby congratulate Colonel Troy Coronado on his
4849 retirement from the United States Army and extend to him sincere
4950 best wishes for the future; and, be it further
5051 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5152 prepared for Colonel Coronado as an expression of high regard by the
5253 Texas House of Representatives.
