| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Maria Alexandra Adams, a senior at Keller High |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Although she was born without hands, Ms. Adams |

| 9 | 10 | | learned to draw and paint using only her elbows, and her artistic |

| 10 | 11 | | talent became clear when she was in elementary school; her painting |

| 11 | 12 | | of a house was selected by the Hudson Foundation for display in |

| 12 | 13 | | their offices for all to enjoy for a year; more recently, she |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | received the highest grade at the Texas Art Education Association |

| 14 | 15 | | Visual Arts Scholastic Event for her picture of a chessboard with |

| 15 | 16 | | two sides, one with traditional chess pieces and the other with |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | objects representing her childhood; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Adams was born near Penza in Russia and spent |

| 18 | 19 | | her first seven years in an orphanage for children with |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | disabilities; with the assistance of Alexandra Goode of |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | International Guardian Angels Outreach, she was brought to the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | United States for better medical care; she was adopted by the Adams |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | family and has since thrived as a Texan; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A good student, Ms. Adams has impressed her teachers |

| 24 | 25 | | with her kindness, consideration, and sense of humor, as well as her |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | academic achievement; she is involved in the Astronomy Club and the |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | National Art Honor Society, and she plans to study art, math, and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | science in college; in addition, she is active in her church youth |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | group and participates in biannual mission trips to Mexico; and |

| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Maria Adams has inspired innumerable people through |

| 30 | 31 | | her artistic vision and determination to overcome challenges and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | pursue her dreams, and she may indeed look forward to a future |

| 32 | 33 | | bright with promise; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
