| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Galveston police officer |

| 6 | 7 | | Christopher Michael Sanderson on March 4, 2017, at the age of 31, |

| 7 | 8 | | has brought a great loss to the family, friends, and colleagues of |

| 8 | 9 | | this dedicated public servant; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Born in Galveston on September 11, 1985, Christopher |

| 10 | 11 | | Sanderson was the son of Robert and Barbara Sanderson; he graduated |

| 11 | 12 | | in 2004 from Ball High School and went on to work for the Galveston |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Beach Patrol, the City of Galveston Jail, and the Galveston Police |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Department, where he had spent the past decade of his career; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Officer Sanderson was the recipient of numerous |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | honors from the department, including a Life Saving Award and a |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Marine Dive Team Unit Commendation, and he was named Officer of the |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Year in both 2008 and 2016; he was a member of the Marine Dive |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Division, Special Response Group, and Honor Guard, but of all his |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | achievements, he was proudest of the seven years that he served in |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | the department's K-9 Division; he shared a close bond with his K-9 |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | partner, Abba, and even during the last days of his life, he |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | remained a strong advocate for the division; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, This extraordinary young man was blessed with the |

| 24 | 25 | | affection and support of his parents and his brother, Robert, as |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | well as a wide circle of relatives; he was also cherished by many |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | friends, who he was known to treat as family; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Christopher Sanderson accomplished much during his |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | time on this earth, and the example of his life will forever inspire |

| 29 | 30 | | those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
