45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Representatives from the Invest in Texas campaign
67 are gathering at the State Capitol on April 12, 2017, in connection
78 with their legislative day; and
89 WHEREAS, Formed in 2011, the Invest in Texas campaign is a
910 student-led effort designed to advocate for higher education; those
1011 collaborating on the initiative are the three Legislative Student
1112 Organizations at The University of Texas at Austin--Student
1213 Government, the Senate of College Councils, and the Graduate
1314 Student Assembly--and 25 other partnering organizations; open to
1415 both undergraduate and graduate students, the campaign welcomes
1516 individuals of any party affiliation; and
1617 WHEREAS, Members of the Invest in Texas campaign draft a
1718 platform for each legislative session; since its inception, the
1819 campaign has focused on maintaining adequate state funding for
1920 UT-Austin, protecting financial aid programs, keeping the campus
2021 safe, and supporting competitiveness in such areas as faculty and
2122 staff insurance benefits; and
2223 WHEREAS, The participants in the Invest in Texas campaign
2324 have demonstrated an impressive commitment to excellence in higher
2425 education, and their contributions indeed merit special
2526 recognition; now, therefore, be it
2627 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2728 Legislature hereby recognize April 12, 2017, as Invest in Texas Day
2829 at the State Capitol and extend to those involved in the initiative
2930 sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and productive event.
