45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Tommy Ramirez Jr. is retiring as chief juvenile
67 probation officer of the Cameron County Juvenile Justice Department
78 on January 31, 2017; and
89 WHEREAS, After graduating from Bryan High School, Tommy
910 Ramirez earned a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University in
1011 1977 before going on to work in leadership roles at the Boys & Girls
1112 Clubs of Brazos Valley and San Antonio, as well as at a
1213 manufacturing company; and
1314 WHEREAS, In 1986, Mr. Ramirez began his career in juvenile
1415 justice as a probation officer for Brazos County, and in July 2003,
1516 he was named chief juvenile probation officer of the Cameron County
1617 Juvenile Justice Department, where he has spent more than 13 years;
1718 and
1819 WHEREAS, During his time with the department, Chief Ramirez
1920 has been instrumental in the creation of Harlingen Outreach Center,
2021 and in the development and implementation of vocational training
2122 programs for indigent families and of youth and collaborative
2223 initiatives between juvenile probation officers and local schools
2324 and law enforcement agencies; and
2425 WHEREAS, Chief Ramirez has further contributed to his
2526 professional community by serving on the Texas Juvenile Justice
2627 Department Advisory Council and as president of the South Texas
2728 Chiefs Association, as well as through his involvement with the
2829 Juvenile Justice Association of Texas, the Texas Juvenile Detention
2930 Association, and the Texas Probation Association, which awarded him
3031 its most prestigious honor, the Amador R. Rodriguez Lifetime
3132 Achievement Award; moreover, he has sat on boards for the United Way
3233 of Northern Cameron County and the Boys & Girls Club of San Benito;
3334 and
3435 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, this esteemed Texan has
3536 enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Olga, and their three
3637 children, Tiffany, Tommy, and Kevin; and
3738 WHEREAS, For more than 30 years, Tommy Ramirez has dedicated
3839 his life to the well-being of the state's youth through his work
3940 with the juvenile justice system, and he may indeed reflect with
4041 great pride on a career well spent as he embarks upon the next
4142 exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
4243 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
4344 Legislature hereby congratulate Tommy Ramirez Jr. on his retirement
4445 from the Cameron County Juvenile Justice Department and extend to
4546 him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4647 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4748 prepared for Mr. Ramirez as an expression of high regard by the
4849 Texas House of Representatives.
