H.R. No. 979
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, George Kent was honored for his 29 years of service
to the board of the Mid-Way Regional Airport with an Appreciation
Award at a ceremony held on February 9, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Mid-Way Regional Airport, which is owned by the
cities of Midlothian and Waxahachie, opened in October 1992 to meet
the transportation needs of the area's rapidly growing population;
as mayor of Midlothian from 1979 to 1987, George Kent helped lay the
groundwork for the facility, and after his retirement from the
mayor's office, he became a member of the airport's board and
continued to serve on that body with distinction through 2016; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Mr. Kent and the board's
other members, Mid-Way Regional Airport has expanded to include an
8,000-square-foot terminal, a 6,500-foot-long runway, and more
than 60 aircraft rental hangars, along with a pilot's lounge and
space to host meetings and other events; and
WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, George Kent played an
instrumental role in guiding the development of the Mid-Way
Regional Airport, and in doing so, he greatly benefited his fellow
citizens and earned for himself the respect and admiration of the
community at large; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby commend George Kent on his 29 years of service to
the Mid-Way Regional Airport board and extend to him best wishes for
the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Kent as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
