7	5		relating to general officers within the state military department.
8	6		BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
9	7		SECTION 1. Section 437.058, Government Code, is amended by
10	8		amending Subsections (a), (d), (e), and (f) and adding Subsection
11	9		(d-1) to read as follows:
12	10		(a) The adjutant general may appoint as general officers one
13	11		or more [an] assistant deputy adjutants [adjutant] general for
14	12		army, an assistant deputy adjutant general for air, an assistant
15	13		[deputy] adjutant general for homeland security, and an assistant
16	14		[deputy] adjutant general for domestic operations [government
17	15		affairs].
18	16		(d) The assistant deputy adjutants [adjutant] general for
19	17		[the] army shall support the deputy adjutant general for [the]
20	18		army, represent the command staff at events as needed, and manage
21	19		the activities assigned by the adjutant general or the deputy
22	20		adjutant general for [the] army.
23	21		(d-1) The assistant deputy adjutant general for air shall
24	22		support the deputy adjutant general for air, represent the command
25	23		staff at events as needed, and manage the activities assigned by the
26	24		adjutant general or the deputy adjutant general for air.
27	25		(e) The assistant [deputy] adjutant general for homeland
28	26		security [the Army National Guard or the Air National Guard], as
29	27		determined by the adjutant general, shall:
30	28		(1) coordinate with other state agencies in matters
31	29		pertaining to homeland security [to ensure state emergency services
32	30		are provided and organized to support the state operations center];
33	31		and
34	32		(2) coordinate homeland security actions taken by the
35	33		National Guard Bureau in this state.
36	34		(f) The assistant [deputy] adjutant general for domestic
37	35		operations [the Army National Guard or the Air National Guard, as
38	36		determined by the adjutant general,] shall:
39	37		(1) coordinate activities of the Texas military forces
40	38		with the National Guard Bureau to ensure state emergency services
41	39		are provided and organized to support the state operations center;
42	40		and
43	41		(2) coordinate with other federal, state, and local
44	42		jurisdictions and officials [funding and coordination with other
45	43		federal, state, and local jurisdictions and officials in matters
46	44		relating to the operations of the Texas military forces occurring
47	45		in the assistant deputy adjutant general's jurisdiction or
48	46		oversight].
49	47		SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
