108 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
119 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 191, Health and Safety
1210 Code, is amended by adding Section 191.009 to read as follows:
1311 Sec. 191.009. DEATH INFORMATION FOR DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC
1412 SAFETY. (a) The department shall implement an efficient and
1513 effective method to verify death information to assist the
1614 Department of Public Safety with maintaining records of holders of
1715 driver's licenses and personal identification certificates in this
1816 state.
1917 (b) The department shall enter into a memorandum of
2018 understanding with the Department of Public Safety to implement
2119 this section. The memorandum of understanding must include a
2220 mechanism for the department to provide to the Department of Public
2321 Safety death information that includes unique identifiers,
2422 including social security numbers, necessary to accurately match
2523 death records with driver's license and personal identification
2624 certificate records.
2725 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2826 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2927 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3028 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3129 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
