55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to a requirement that online admission application forms
88 for public institutions of higher education include a link to
99 certain employment data relating to fields of study.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 51.762, Education Code, is amended by
1212 adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows:
1313 (b-1) An electronic common admission application form
1414 adopted under this section must include a prominent link to the
1515 Texas Consumer Resource for Education and Workforce Statistics
1616 ("Texas CREWS") report on gainful employment.
1717 SECTION 2. Section 51.763(b), Education Code, is amended to
1818 read as follows:
1919 (b) The form must:
2020 (1) [shall] allow each applicant to:
2121 (A) [(1)] apply electronically to one or more of
2222 the general academic teaching institutions within the university
2323 system; and
2424 (B) [(2)] indicate preferences for admission
2525 between those institutions; and
2626 (2) include a prominent link to the Texas Consumer
2727 Resource for Education and Workforce Statistics ("Texas CREWS")
2828 report on gainful employment.
2929 SECTION 3. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
3030 and the governing board of a university system shall comply with
3131 Section 51.762(b-1) or 51.763(b)(2), Education Code, as added by
3232 this Act, as applicable, as soon as practicable following the
3333 effective date of this Act but not later than January 1, 2018.
3434 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3535 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3636 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3737 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3838 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
